Responsibilities

The Civil and Political Rights Committee is responsible for all relevant subjects and for protecting and promoting civil and political Human Rights as follows:

1. Issuing NCHR proposals and recommendations related to civil and political rights that are presented to concerned parties and specialized bodies.

2. Commenting on what is submitted to the Committee from the Council's President, Vice-President, the Complaints Committee, or any concerned human rights parties or bodies, whether it be a government or non-government organization, or an international, regional, or national body.

3. Monitoring the implementation of international treaties and conventions related to civil and economic Human Rights and issuing commentaries and recommendations necessary to improve implementation.

4. Presenting opinions on whether Egypt should join certain treaties or conventions related to civil and political rights and examining the reservations presented on the part of Egypt in previous agreements in collaboration with the International Relations Committee.

5. Examining laws related to the enjoyment of civil and political rights and issuing recommendations in collaboration with the Legislative Committee in order to improve legislations to allow for greater participation of citizens in public life.

6. Preparing technical support and training staff members in national institutions related to civil and political rights and liberties with the aim of improving performance levels in collaboration with the Cultural Rights Committee.

7. Participation in preparing the Council's reports that are issued on Human Rights conditions in Egypt.

8. Commenting on the preparation of reports presented by Egypt towards international organizations in reference to treaties that Egypt is part of in collaboration with the International Relations Committee.
