Responsibilities
1. Participation in preparing the National Plan so that it protects and promotes Human Rights in Egypt, in addition to preparing the NCHR proposals and
recommendations, which are presented to concerned parties and specialized bodies.
2. Reviewing current legislations and making recommendations to remove content that violates Human Rights principles.
3. Drafting legislations that aim at protecting and promoting Human Rights.
4. Commenting on drafted laws, bills, and decisions concerned with NCHR's Human Rights objectives.
5. Commenting on reports presented by Egypt to international organizations, while considering past reservations expressed by Egypt with regards to the diction of previous agreements.
6. Participating in the preparation of reports presented by the Council concerning Human Rights conditions in Egypt.
Activities
The Legislative Committee holds two meetings every month to discuss the committee's agenda.
1. Revising the Criminal Procedures Law.
2. Proposing legislations that would reform the system of protective custody and reconciling human rights with the concept of protective custody.
3. Creating a committee that includes Constitutional Law professors, who are attentive to public opinion, in order to make constitutional reforms and enact laws that allow for political rights.
4. Drafting a law for special needs people in Egypt.
