The Economic Rights Committee


Responsibilities

The Economic Rights Committee is responsible for protecting and promoting economic Human Rights and all its relevant issues.

1. Contributing to the National Plan for protecting and promoting Human Rights in Egypt in addition to issuing NCHR proposals and recommendations that are presented to specialized bodies concerned with economic Human Rights.

2. Commenting on information that is sent by government sources, President of the Council, or the Vice-President concerning economic Human Rights issues.

3. Examining the economic circumstances of the Egyptian citizen with reference to salaries, prices, and expenses.

4. Issuing NCHR proposals and recommendations related to economic rights and presenting them to concerned parties.

5. Examining economic laws in collaboration with the Legislative Committee with the aim of reform and raising the economic standard of living of the Egyptian citizen in accordance to international standards.

6. Monitoring the implementation of international treaties and conventions related to economic Human Rights.

7. Issuing commentaries and recommendations necessary to improving implementation in collaboration with the International Relations Committee.

8. Raising awareness of economic Human Rights in collaboration with the Cultural Rights Committee.

9. Contributing to the preparation of reports issued by the Council concerning Human Rights conditions in Egypt.




Activities

The Economic Rights Committee organized a Workshop titled, "The Relationship between the Enjoyment of Human Rights, Development, and Investment" on Sunday, November 27th, 2005 at the Gezeira Sheraton Hotel.

The Committee is currently preparing for a training session aimed at improving the decision-making process and making it consistent with Human Rights from March 25th-26th, 2006 and it is anticipated to take place in the University of Asyout.
